We are seeking an innovative and highly motivated Process Development Scientist/Engineer to join our R&D team at our site in Haverhill. This is a unique opportunity for an individual who combines strong theoretical process engineering skills with a practical hands-on approach in the laboratory.

The successful candidate will play a key role in accelerating process development through the integration of in silico modelling, experimental design, laboratory execution, and advanced data analytics.

Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will develop robust experimental strategies, build process understanding, and use data-driven approaches to optimise processes and support scale-up activities.

You are equally comfortable discussing process models, designing statistically robust experiments, and rolling up your sleeves to work in the laboratory. You enjoy solving complex technical problems using a combination of engineering principles, scientific experimentation, and data analytics.

Your Responsibilities

You will:

• Develop and utilise in silico process models to support process understanding, optimisation, and scale-up.

• Design and plan experimental programmes to evaluate process performance and investigate critical process parameters.

• Apply Design of Experiments (DoE) methodologies to maximise learning and efficiently generate actionable data.

• Support and participate directly in laboratory activities, including experimental setup, execution, troubleshooting, and data collection.

• Implement and develop Process Analytical Technology (PAT) strategies for real-time process monitoring and control.

• Perform multivariate data analysis (MVDA) and other advanced statistical analyses to extract insights from complex datasets.

• Analyse and interpret experimental results, translating findings into practical recommendations.

• Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and project teams to deliver process development objectives.

• Contribute to process scale-up and technology transfer activities where required.

• Maintain high standards of laboratory safety, documentation, and data integrity.

Our Requirements

• Degree (BSc, MSc, or PhD) in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline.

• Experience in process development, process optimisation, or applied R&D.

• Strong understanding of Design of Experiments (DoE) methodologies.

• Experience with process modelling and simulation tools.

• Practical laboratory experience, including planning and executing experimental work.

• Knowledge of Process Analytical Technology (PAT).

• Experience with multivariate data analysis, statistical modelling, and data interpretation.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent communication and technical reporting abilities.

Desirable Skills

• Experience within pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals, speciality chemicals, biotechnology, or advanced materials development.

• Familiarity with chemometrics and data science tools.

• Experience with scale-up, pilot plant operations, or manufacturing support.

• Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, R, or similar analytical software.

• Knowledge of Quality by Design (QbD) principles.
